Thread: Northern Virginia Get Together with AFDavis11 – March 3rd

Hello everyone. It’s time again for another Northern Virginia get together with Alan Davis.

Just like last time, the plan is to camp out in my garage and spend the time restoring razors, making custom scales, or whatever everyone would like to do. One member even suggested that I fire up my forge, but we’ll just have to see about that one.

Not sure what to expect? Here’s a link to some photos from the last meeting to give you an idea.

NOTE: The intent is for the meeting to be hands on. Watching me is dreadfully boring. Working on your own razors yourself would be far far more interesting. So, bring your project razors! This point wasn’t made clear last time so I will repeat: we will be working on YOUR razors. I have plenty of razors in my “to be restored” pile that everyone is entirely welcome to play with, by all means, but you will have a thousand times more fun working on your own razors.

Wanna try making scales? I have most of the supplies to make new scales together. Are the pins loose on your razor? Bring it and we’ll tighten the pins together. Does your razor have rust spots? Bring it and we’ll attempt to buff the blade together. Again, whatever you guys want to work on.

Also, Alan and other honing experts will be present to sharpen razors and share honing tips as well. Should be a good time.

We’ve scheduled the get together for Saturday, March 3^rd, from 1-4pm. All are welcome to join. If interested, please contact Alan or myself.

My place is in Vienna, not too far from Tysons Corner. We'd love to have over if you are available on March 3rd. Perhaps at the get together you can share how you came up with that username. Surely there's an interesting story behind that handle.

Note to members thinking about attending: especially new guys: don't miss this.

I'd go pretty far to get some time w/ afdavis - especially on his knowledge of strops and stropping. Go if you can. You'll thank yourself.

I'll be bringing some jnats and bevel setters.
