I really want to be able to have a razor that could easily do the HHT.
You don't buy a car to look at it, and you don't hone a razor to do a hanging hair test. It's meant to shave!

As for the finisher, once you're getting consistently good shaves off your 8K, the 12K will be a good addition. Until such time, it has no added value.

Why? What's HHT going to do other than slightly impress people on YouTube?
I want a great shaving razor. That's all. Don't care what it can do to a fine hair in mid air. My beard is coarse and it's on my face. 8000 grit is a finisher. You could get a zillion grit if it ain't right before you get to 8 it won't fix it.

Or you can get some very fine CrOx and use the back side of your strop. It gives a better HHT than most finishers. And, on shaving, a razor that passes HHT does not necessarily shave better than a razor that can't pass it. But it does impress my friends when I show it to them

shaving is about impressing your girl with your face, not your friends with stray hairs.

please make a note of it.

Thanks so much for all of the quick feedback guys!!
I am thinking that a 12k naniwa stone is in my future thanks to your helpful guidance! :-)
And the reason I had said I was wabting to have my razor pass the HHT was because I figured if it coukd do that then it would be able to handle the roughest stubble (particularly my very hard to shave chin area) but seeing as that isn't necessarily the case I can just keep my current routine for honing/sharpening :-)

    HHT means squat.
Don't spend money on 12k until you're getting consistently great shaves off that 8k.

What happens is this...people but one, shave doesn't improve. They buy another finisher and still no improvement. They read and hear about the next greatest finisher...get one. Still bad. The problem lies in the beginning.

And please, do yourself a favor and get the HHT dance out of your head. I promise it will only help you to forget it. Focus on the shaves not the gimmicks.

    I would invest in a dmt 325 over a 12k.

Man you're killing the "lightly used" finisher market!

But it's good advice, even here where the OP has been abandoned.

also, i meant to say earlier, be careful what you watch on youtube. There is a lot of great information on there and there's at least 10x that amount in total garbage and silliness.

If you want to pass the HHT, the 12k is a good start. But to really get there the Suehiro 20K will do the trick. I'm not going to tell you NOT to bother with the HHT. Its a method of gauging the condition of your edge as long as the hair in question is consistent and you can interpret the results based on that. I'll assume you're getting good edges from your 8k because you said so. So if you're getting good edges from your 8k, you can go to a 12k, do the 12 and 20k, or get that last level of keenness from CrOx or diamond spray. What you're really chasing is that super keen edge. The HHT raises pulses around here because any given person's hair is not exactly the same as another and it can't be relied upon universally. But that doesn't mean that it can't mean something to YOU. And its only a gauge in that its one test but not necessarily 100% conclusive. I use it all the time. It gives me a good idea of where the edge is at during the honing process. But just like everyone said, its not a substitute for a shave. But that doesn't mean that its useless. Its just not 100% conclusive. The next question you'll want to know the answer to is what is comfortable to you. Some prefer a smooth buttery feel from their hone over that super keen edge that splits hair at the sight of the razor. But that is a personal choice. But if you want to get there a super high grit stone will do the trick.

Well, I am 123 and a newbie and slurry stones are for stone hones not for the new ceramic hones like the naniwas.never had a Norton,i would think they would have some stone hones not for sureWhat I have found out since being on this forum is you need a good bevel first with 1000k and then work up.What I was told you should able to cut hair on your arm if you have a good bevel on your razor after using a 1000k stone.Try '' STRAIGHT RAZOR DESIGNS" on this forum with Lynn & Don.
