i cant really name a favorite( since all my razors dont like the same stone) but almost everything is finished on a coti or the grey/green thuri i got a bit ago , 2 of these i cant use on razors but out of the rest i would have to say its between the dark brownish/pink/hard coti & the grey/green thuri

I am pretty partial to translucent black Ark edges but good JNat is very nearly identical. My absolute favorite lately is a found grey slate, picture below. Second favorite is a blue slate, also below.

Disregard the bevel shot, accidentally clicked it and it didn't delete properly - that's not even from either of these stones.

My la dressante coticule. Hard as nails and smooth as glass. No matter what else I've tried (jnats, thuris, zulu, other coticules), sooner or later I ended up coming back to it because my skin seems to appreciate the edges off it most.

Zulu with 10k and 12k superstores before it. The shave off the 10k is nice the polish on the 12 is better and the zulu brings it all together.

After the 8k Norton, I go to a 12k Naniwa then to the natural that works best with the steel. For my Sheffield blades, that's a slow coti I found in an old family toolbox. For Solingen blades, it's the Zulu grey, starting with slurry and diluting. The coti may actually be a step back in keenness from the 12k synthetic, but it increases the shave comfort significantly.

For good hard New York steel, I like to finish on my Charnley.

I'm still new at this honing. about a year. I start out with the Naniwa 1K then the 3K move on up to the 8K I was finishing with the 12K naniwa. Come Monday I will add the 5K naniwa after the 3K and lately I've been finishing with the Suehiro 20K. A friend told and showed me the 20K and I had to have one. As he said it just takes the edge to all together different finish. for me it was just great. I'm pretty sure now that I've got the straight razor stones I need so I'm looking for a good stone for my kitchen knives. I'm looking at the japan tool site trying to decide what to order. on the stones for the straights I originally got a Norton 4/8 K and used it once. didn't like it so I put it on the bay. used the coins for the the 5K.

I only have a Naniwa SS 12k as a finisher. My razors come out as sharp as any I've had done by honemeisters. I believe it's the bevel that is of most importance, and most use the 1k of some variety to accomplish that. Having said that, I'm dying to try the Nano Cloth on glass system, with the CBN sprays. Has anyone here used CBN, and if so, what do you think of it?
