Favorite finisher??
Soo... You all have so many rocks pass through your hands, I thought I'd ask a question that has been asked time and time again. But, new times, new stones.
What's you fave finisher and why?
This *IS* a show and tell thread, pretty much, so post a pic if you can.Last edited by Siguy; 01-10-2015 at 02:49 AM. Reason: show n tell thread reminder

Thanked: 11848k Norton. Well I don't stop there,,, um 12 Nani,,uhh 1 more? I love my Zulu Grey to end it all with. Consistently sharp and smooth is why.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Since I started, all my razors have been honed by Valery, who finishes on an Escher, and the edges are so smooth, velvety sharp, so when it came time to get my own, I finally found one with the dimensions I was looking for.

Thanked: 2284Like 10pups, but slightly different. Norton 4/8 to a 13k Sigma, to a zulu gray makes HarryWally a happy boy.
Buuuuuuuut.......
I recently got a Vintage y/g Thuri from Hatzicho, that is from the Old Escher mine. Having a hard time picking what stone I finish on now.Last edited by HARRYWALLY; 01-10-2015 at 03:38 AM.

I have no favorite, I do like to play and do not hone professionally.
Some of the ones that have been good to me above 8k are:
Four of my Coticules
Any of the Thuringians up to the Y/G.
A couple good C-12k's
A few English hones
An HGH
A Japanese Nakayama Hard I was lucky with
A few great barber hones all above 12K
A black Jasper as a carrier for slurry stones.
It is the hands of the hone person as much as the hone. No quick fixes! (Don't I know it!) Any of the hones mentioned will, with more or less laps accomplish the feat of a perfectly sharpened and nice shaving razor.
YMMV

I am partial to my hard black arkie, and Apache edges on my sheffield blades, but some of my other blades prefer other finishers. What works for my beard/face may not work for others. I recently had a very well respected "honemeister" who specializes in jnat edges , hone a W&B and Fili for me and I ended up rehoning both. Not because they were bad edges, but because the edges were not right for me.
