Thanked: 458I feel the same way. I've been trying to sell my stones slowly because in reality, I rely on a linen to do most of the work, and the one barber hone in my medicine cabinet has enough stone left in its half inch thickness to keep my razors sharp for several centuries (or until dropped).
My problem is that for every two I sell, I buy one more.
I sold a hard japanese stone in the classifieds here a month or two ago, and sold some oilstones elsewhere....but then I bought another hard japanese stone yesterday.
so, yeah, I'm settled on stones until I buy another one.

Thanked: 177If your happy then leave it! But some naturals IMO are worth trying at least to see. You wont know until you try it. There is a big difference in feel IMO with them all.

Thanked: 55No more til my edges are better on what I've got. Naniwa pro 400, 1000, 3000, bbw 4×20 cm, coticule 4×20cm and aj 3 stone slate yet 15×5cm. Still sticking a bit on atg pass. But this could be too much pressure, lather not slick enough or and edge not there yet. Having fun learning all at once. Shaves definitely getting though. After shaving today found a scar from when was bout fifteen and ground my chin down an icy ski slope. Thought it had vanished years ago.

Forgot to mention my Arks ...... Washita Lily White, Soft Ark, Translucent, and Hard Black. All Pike or Pike/Norton. I'll die with those. Wait for the estate sale if you're interested.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have most any kind out there by now.
And sure enough, I don't buy much stones anymore.
That said, if I see a particularly nice Japanese natural or a new synthetic stone I wanna play around with, I buy it.
Honing is still my favorite part of this hobby, perhaps even more than enjoying my little stable of razors or the shaving itself.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I rely on my Shaptons for the grunt work and have moved almost entirely to JNats for maintenance and finishing. I'm an addict but I haven't bought any hones since I acquired a collection of vintage JNats from the estate of a Japanese collector - they didn't come cheap but they are each amazing - 6 in total, two mounted the rest not. I love the ZG too - slow but very nice edges for the price. I have a red Apache - great stone - took forever to lap. Two modern cotis (both crap IMO), an Escher (nice), the famous SG 20K for quick stuff... the list goes on. I think I'm done now - or at least until the next "fad stone" comes along.

I was where you are, then I decided to pick up a natural stone "just to try one". That ended my being settled LOL.
