No sales talk in the open forums Ron ! ..........
Just kidding Ron, I know you weren't being serious ....... anyway ........ better yet ..... buy a single grit Norton 4k, and a single grit 8k. Hone on the 3" side when you want, or lay it on its side and you have a 1" side. I've done that a couple of times years ago, but it isn't really 'that' better than the 3" side regardless of the razor .... IMHO.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 3795Sorry, please don't ban me!
Actually, I did do exactly what you described. Unfortunately (only in this instance) my Nortons were THESE. Because they were clamped into place, I got tired of removing the clamps and I was also worried that I might narrow the hones too much and they would no longer be held by the clamps. Since it took me a while longer than it should have to wisen up, I broke down and bought the narrow hones that are NOT FOR SALE!

Thanked: 24on the main topic: I recently managed to get consistent results from my coticules, the trick was buying a naniwa professional 1K
aside from that I got the lapping done of my hybrid les latneuses coticule (second hone I ever bought), together with the fact that the 'normal' side is rediculously fast on water this nice piece of nature together with the NP1K right now forms my entire progression about which I am setisfied....
... but... that doesn't mean I didn't buy a hone last week.... in my defense: a 1.5 X 7 inch natural combi coticule for 20 euro's? don't tell me anyone here could resist that

I just have the basics. A Naniwa Pro 1000k, Norton combo ( yellow & white) 4k,8k, Naniwa 12k and an Apache strata - I have been able to get edges that are more than acceptable and feel and work as good ( for me) as some blades I have used that have been done on 20k, 30k, Eshers, coticules etc
One tired old Marine- semper fi, god bless all vets

Thanked: 1081I have a basic set up. Chosera 1k, superstone 5k, 10k and gokumyo 20k. Im no honemeister but once I have a bevel set this is all I need to obtain consistently good results.
One day I might look into a natural finisher but at the moment I don't have the time to spend learning the characteristics of a natural hone. That being said after using 1 brush for the past 5 years ive found myself obsessing over them since I bought a simpson manchurian so who knows when HAD will raise its 4 sided head...

I have the Norton 220/1K & 4/8K stones for razor prep, but after that is where the fun begins. There are so many different types of finishing stones and that's what keeps addicted people buying. It's the unknown, will the next stone be the "One". I have a couple of JNATs I really like, i use them for customers. I have a 12X3 Arki that's starting to smooth out, but is still a pre finisher until then. The C12K is a keeper and I have a nice 10 bout coti. I would like to find a CF oil stone but they're hard to find. Does anyone know where I could find one???
