Thanked: 0I was looking into the imperia la roccia as well the vendor wouldn't offer any information on the stone other then he believes it is a slate so I steered for away from it

Thanked: 4I am flattered to be an inspiration for anyone to do anything, I admire your enthusiast. I am no expert. Just a guy that bought a ZY about two months ago, caught the addiction, and love being self sufficient. I will say that my Wei Wei stones have enabled me to equal or better any "shave ready" razor I have bought since, including a factory new Revisor which is the last razor I intend to buy. If you can shave with a ZY as delivered ( I could not) you should be happy with your new hones. A ZY is also a good choice to learn to hone, I used tape. The ZY strop can also be used with diamond paste to complete the edge prior to a full stropping on a quality strop such as the SRD natural.
I am not a big face booker, but would be glad to hear how thing are going via this forum or the PM function.

Thanked: 481Interesting. Utopian is right though. Natural hones being that they are, I wouldn't expect to get a 12-15K edge off it. The real benefit to naturals isn't so much the super sharp edge they leave anyway. Coticules are a perfect example - most are only ball park 8k. But the people that use them say it's the most comfortable edge around.

Thanked: 5Not sure what you exactly mean but the ILR as seen by a guy that knows honing shows magnified photo's to compare the edge from that to edges of other stones with actual ratings you can tell that the edge is better than the grit rating they state! If you mean that he doesn't disclose where he gets them from, that is not really a concern of a buyer!

Thanked: 5The ILR as seen or should I say shown by a guy that knows honing shows magnified photo's to compare the edge from that to edges of other stones with actual ratings you can tell that the edge is better than the grit rating they state! That is how he states it looks like a much better/finer edge than the 12-15k. I do understand what you are saying about natural stones and tend to agree that the rating is just a ball park but it can be a low or high ball park at that!
