Update: Ron will get back to us from Shapton....in the meantime I found a second vendor selling the 16k for less than the 10k:

    https://www.classichandtools.com/aca...on_Stones.html

When I asked them I received the following answer:

"This is indeed correct (that the 16k is less expensive than the 10k), it was once explained to me why but in all honesty I was left rather confused!"

I also e-mailed Dictum and received the following:

"This stone has a mixture of different grits starting from 6000 to 20 000. Which gave on average 16 000. The other stones are just made of one grit."

"This is the only stone with this special grinding. Shapton also do have it on their website."

I looked on Shapton.com and Shapton.jp, found the 16k but could not see reference to this mixed grit issue., maybe someone with advanced search skills will have better luck.
