I think he's seeing the reflection of his finger on the edge. You can make out his finger and part of the phone/camera on the blade face.
I try to watch for that, on my pics. If possible.
My guess would be, near NOS. Edges too crisp, scales good, blade Brite, no signs of honing. And the collars look right, and in excellent condition...not smashed from tightening, as I've found the in the wilds.Last edited by outback; 01-22-2024 at 03:32 PM.

The resolution is terrible. Foggy pic. I do see things others may not at times.
Look at the line on the tang next to the scales. Where the last letter of Clauss is. They buffed right up as close as they could to the scale.
Possibility of lost temper.
I would need to see some better pics before I would pull the trigger on it. Even though it looks much better than 99% of the crap left on ebay.
But hey! What do I know? I defer to the experts here. Whup it on a 30k and shave away!

Looks to be the back corner of the phone, shadowing over the last S, just before the pivot. To me. As stated.. I don't see too many in that condition very often, either. It'd have to be in hand to be determined, and why I hunt the wilds.

He already has that Clauss. I think some better pics would show more but that thing looks pretty clean to me. I don't see buff.rounding at all on that one. Regardless, it is what it is and he has it for good or bad.

Thanked: 0Here is a closer pic. Could not get much better though. It should be a 6/8. It came in much better condition than I expected. Initially I event thought it was stainless steel but soon I realized there were some minor rust spots. After removing the rusts, I lightly buffed it a bit, the blaze is till thick enough, so not much to worry about. I washed off the camellia oil on it and shaved directly. The shave was already good, however, it could not handle my chin area. That's expected as I never planned to shave with it so just honed it up to 8K and oiled it and put it away.
Okay, the closer pic did not work. The picture was compressed by the server seems. See below link for original.

Thanked: 0You were right about it. There was a minor spine issue near the shoulder, I probably should have taped one more layer there, then the edge would be even. I tried to shave with it already, it should be honed up to 8K or maybe 12k, so it could not handle my chin area. Will try to hone it up to 30k and see how it goes.

Thanked: 0Your assessment was extremely accurate. It came covered with some yellowish thick oil. I though it was badly rusted in the seller's picture. But it surprised me that there was only very minor rust. The steel looks like stainless but actually not. Wondering what's the steel. I could not find much info about it at all.

Looks perhaps like a frown is forming? Heel could use reshaping soon, a hook starting. Stabiliser riding up on hone. All these issues can certainly be addressed to produce a nice edge.

Yeah I saw that too Mick. I wasn't sure if that was a frown or just a shadow in the pic. Sucks that the website restricts the definition of the pictures.
