Thanked: 0Norton 4000/8000, Chinese 12000.
Just got them and am in the process of lapping them with the DMT-C.
Then comes the actual first honing attempt...

Shapton GS: 1,2,4,8,16k
I will either stop there, or finish with a Y/G Escher or
Nakayama. Sometimes a coticule makes its way into
the mix if I'm so inclined.

Thanked: 13Other:
Norton 4k/8k, Dragon's Tongue for polishing, and CrO. Need to get myself a good bevel starter though.

WOW!!! Um that rocks.

I figured out one problem. My Spike was shaving a little rough. So I made a slurry on my 12k and ran it over 20 times then 20 times with water.
Smooth shave this morning. Now to get a slurry stone.

Thanked: 735Lapping film.
Pros:
- Will cut through any steel, has no issues with high Rockwell (ala TI), or stainless. It just hones.
- Very smooth and soft feel when honing.
- Can be used wet or dry
- No lapping needed for lapping film, just a smooth, flat surface (glass or granite).
- You can modify how it works.
Cons:
- This stuff wears out
- Diamond film is pretty pricey (but cuts even better than the aluminum oxide stuff, and lasts longer than it too.)

DMT D8E to set bevel and sharpen
DMT D8EE to polish up from the E
CrO on one of WildTim's bench strops to final polish.
I use this combo for a couple of reasons:
1. When I started, the EE was all I had. I only had the money for 1 stone, and had read that the EE cuts fast, but if used with a very light touch leaves a fairly polished edge.
2. I like the E for setting bevels. A lot. I bought it after I had recovered from my initial entry expenditure (and some ebay RAD ) Again because I couldn't afford a stone + something to lap it with. I use this on my knives a lot too.
All that being said, after I have recovered enough from my latest round of RAD to send my poor old scale-less W&B to Max, my next cash outlay is going to be for a Norton 4000/8000 and a chinese 12k, not necessarily in that order, since I've heard that the EE can leave a slightly harsh edge. I can believe this, since all my razors are very sharp, and cut hair off my face effortlessly, yet sometimes there's a little bit of burn after it's all over.
