Thanked: 7This week I bought a Craftsman (i.e. Sears) hone, which I lapped and chamfered and used tonight. The box it came in was blue and yellow (the same colors some Norton stones use, and I know Sears used other manufacturers for its Craftsman products. Has anyone else seen one of these? It may be made of carborundum, because it is a much rougher surface and faster cutter than most of the barber hones I own. Those generally seem to be in the 10-12k range, but this Craftsman may be below 8k. Sorry no pix, but I'm not set up for that. It's a liver colored hone like many barber hones.

Thanked: 488That's always possible since as you say Sears contracts many items they sell. The cutting speed sounds a bit like Sham's????

I travel frequently and always take along one of the one of the three following hones: The first one is a FA Clauberg Tonsorial Gem double sided hone. The blue side seems about 4000 grit and the brown side is maybe somewhere between 8-10000. It leaves a very sharp edge. The second hone is a small double sided Belgian/Coticule combination, which needs no further discussion, except that is leaves the smoothest edge. The third is a Swaty, which also needs no discussion but produces a very sharp edge. They each work very well. Thanks to all the posters!

I have a Boss, its like new I have only tried it a couple of times and didnt get on very well with it TBH, I think the propblem is I am always Honing so I rarely find a Razor that just needs a quick Touch up.
Any advice or other info would be oustanding
Sorry for the pics but I didnt have the time to take any fresh for this thread
