Small New Thuringian
I showed Sham this picture when I got this hone a few weeks ago. Seller on B&B sold me one saying it was a Thuringian (NOS I think, I forgot). I haven't used the stone that much yet, it is a very small stone about an inch wide and four inches long. One side is rough and the side shown is glass smooth. Sham said it's colored like an Escher, I have a new Thuringian by Muller that is a lot dark than this. Anyone have these/ use these for polish? Slurry is white grey cream color and it smells like chalk.

I believe it is. Ought to be six inches long, though - it's a standard size.
Also, I got a loaner sitting right here that looks just like it.
Coincidentally, I had this pic saved with the 4-inch line superimposed in blue to show someone what a 1x4" would look like.
Yours does seem a little lighter than this one (that's a dark picture of the one I have, though), but since this was such a common size for M. Thuringians, I bet that's one.
(Plus, if I'm not mistaken, someone unloaded a bunch of these on B&B recently.)Last edited by northpaw; 04-28-2010 at 08:15 PM.

I've had a few around that size, including a Celebrated Water Razor Hone. They've all been fairly light coloured compared to the photo's I've seen of the Muller's. Fantastic finishers. I used to use mine with slurry, but no longer do. I use it from wet to dry though.

I borrowed the idea from Russel after reading his reviews ages ago, so have to give him due credit.
Here's one & the pattern he follows.
When i use mine, I do the majority of the strokes on a wet stone, but towards the end stop adding water & keep going till it's dry. Hope this helps!

Sorry! Only answered half your question!
Off the top of my head, I use a Coticule, vintage Thuringians, some odd vintage slate, a Shapton 16000, & occasionally a Chinese. I like the Thuringians. They give a terrific fine edge, but I wish I could afford a 10"x2". I'm not so patient!
