I'll be silently following this thread. I have the same hone setup (Shaptons) but no finisher. This thread might very well affect what finisher I end looking for in the future.

I'd tell you my favourite finisher but that might give away which razor was honed on which stone..!

    Default Finished!

    OK, here's my impressions.

Razor #1. Plenty sharp, but slightly less so than the other two. Crisp edge = Nakayama. Least favorite.

#2. Sharper than #2, magical edge. Since I'm partial to Cotis and this was the smoothest of the group, I'll say this is the coti and, by a close margin, my favorite.

#3. The sharpest. Edge was enigmatic. First pass felt like it was skipping, stuttering, something I've never experienced before. Could be in part due to a 2 1/2 day beard (?). Passes 2-4 more routine, but still felt "different" than what I've used previously. Since I've never used a blade finished on a CF, I'd guess that's what it is.

Really, you could throw a hankie over these three little beauties and cover 'em all. Praises to the OP: he's clearly mastered the fine art of finishing on three different rocks.

    Many thanks for the opportunity.

    Thanks for your thoughts Phil!

I'm really enjoying this thread I must admit. Its really interesting how much peoples taste in edges vary, with different people preferring different finishes.

I can hardly wait for the next feedback!

Man, being new to honing and straights in general I'm subscribing to this thread.

Just learned to hone on my coti and love the smooth edge I get from it. Have an Escher/Thuri I just won in the mail and can't wait to try the edge from that.

Really interested though to see how the votes turn out and were the JNat and CF lie in regards to the Coti.

Razors arrived safe and sound. How beautiful they are in their antique wooden box. Sheffield masterpieces they are for sure. I can't wait to take them for a ride. I will report back soon.

I shaved twice using all three blades for each shave. I wanted to give these beauties as little wear and tare to keep them as fresh as I got them for the next member.
Before each shave, I gave them 30 laps each on plain latigo. Razors 1 and 3 gave me the best feedback on leather.

I used very light and tender strokes and took extra time. The regular razors of my harem looked on as my shameless affair progressed with the three new shapley strangers caressing my face. Usually, these affairs can leave a man feeling dirty, but these beauties left my face with a clean BBS.

In order of favorite to least:

    #1 Jnat

    #3 CF

    #2 Coti

As soon as Pabster emails me as to where he wants me to mail the "triplets" I will mail them.

Nice razors and honing Stuart, it was good fun and the whole idea was brilliant and creative.

    Mike
