Home Made Naniwa Travel Combo Ideas?
I have this crazy idea of making a combination hone by gluing two Naniwa Superstones together and cutting the resulting monster into smaller sizes to put in a travel kit.
Don't ask me why, it's just an idea I can't seem to let go of.
So my question is, what would be the best grits to combine?
5K/10K?
8K/12K?
10K/12K?
I'm leaning toward the 5/10 because 5K gets down into some sharpening if remedial work needs doing. 10/12 seems like too much fineness. 8/12 could be nice.
Any opinions?
Don't try to talk me out of this--you might want to buy one of the offspring combinations once I do it!

If I had the choice, 5/10, it'd be like the Norton 4/8.....and just for the reasons you mentioned....
We have assumed control !

For travel uses, I would assume you want tuchups and minimal maintence? If that is the case, I would go with 8/12 or 5/10.

Thanked: 1What final dimensions are you contemplating?
I like the idea, but I'm not sure you could get more than two combos out of your two new hones. While I'm strictly a Naniwa / Norton user at the moment, I think I'd be tempted to go Belgian for this application.

I'd think you could get 4 if you cut the full hones in half both ways.

Thanked: 1160cool Idea
Taking advice from SRD,I have a Naniwa 5k,8k and 12k... I suppose a 5k/12k would be a good traveller.sounds like a neat idea actually. I will be curious on the outcome of this endeavor?? I would love to see more traveling SR kits and items pop up. I love my Nanis !

You guys must take some long trips.
I just take a spare razor and a TI travel stop pasted on the rough out side with some CrOx.
None the less....in accordance with the OP's original instructions.....I won't try to talk you out of it. Good luck with the project.

Thanked: 30I would go with a 8/12. If traveling and you need more bite than an 8 chances are you dropped it and a 5 or 3 wouldn't be much help in that size.
