Interesting! Care to share some nugui recepies with me? I have not yet tried it.

    @roguerazor

Nice looking stone you have there. I would love to try it sometime. Tell me when you are visiting Germany

I sure would if I had any, I don't even know if there is any "real" recepies.
I mix up a small test batch, add different abrasives while testing on the steel I want to polish and try to keep track of the different amounts I've added.
When I'm happy with the surface I mix a larger batch and start polish.
The Japanese seem to use anything in their powders, finely ground human teeth even, that I won't try!
It looks like they use the same mixtures to polish their Urushi laquer work.

Haha, I don't travel that much anymore but you never know!

I sometimes take a little slurry on the palm of my hand and stop on it, it works fine to take a harsh edge to the more smooth I like.
As much as i like slurry, now it's time for some Cognac and a shave!

Still learning to use it. I can touch up a kamisori by strop stroking on it with just water. Still learning to use it, taking so much longer than learning my coti! It is crazy hard. Its not easy to get a slurry on it with anything other than a DMT. Probably should have started with something a little softer

I have a nakayama maruichi asagi as well.
They are super hard, takes forever to get slurry with a nagura. I am looking for a fine but softer tomo nagura now to use with it.

    Default My latest Aqcuisition

finally my collection is (somewhat) complete!

After buying and selling and rebuying a ton of japanese naturals my collection has reached a point where it is boiled down to very very nice and unique stones
that absolutely suit my needs and perform the way I like it best. The last missing piece was one of those elusive (or rather expensive) Nakayama.
So, thanks to my good friend Maxim from japanesenaturalstones, here it is!

My vintage Nakayama Maruka (stamp faded)

Shown in this picture is my Nakayama (approx. 200x75mm) with true Nakayama Tomo-Nagura and Mejiro-Nagura.

This particular Nakayama has a light eggshell color with hints of blue and even yellow.
The surface shows some Nashiji as well.

If anyone wants to discuss the strata and correct colour (ie. is it asagi? or kiita?) please be my guest.

The stone is super huge and feels extremely nice. I specifically chose this stone because it is not too hard and not too soft but just right.
I usually create mud with the Mejiro which creates a nice slurry that finishes fast and very keen. With water only after a nice finishing stone like a good 8k
the stone excels and gives an edge that is incredibly sharp yet smooth to the face.

This stone probably is my favorite J-Nat when it comes to my razors. Very very good. Thanks Maksim!

    Thumbs up Three good ones.....

This one is a recent acquisition for me. For an unspecified length of time it was Sham's go-to finisher. The only id name we could come up with is Asagi. That's all the name info I have for this stone.

It's very hard and does not slurry itself. Puts a very nice finish on a well prepped blade. Works fine.

I now have this stone, an Ozuku Sunashi Suita from Maksim and a Nakayama Maruichi Asagi from Old_School. All three stones perform well.

Beautiful stone. I have one. I believe that the jnat hardness matters less for Western blades but is more critical to kamisori
