Thanked: 1936I have called them PHIG's as well as the range of finish varies soooo much & many are quite disappointed with them & may go thru 3-5 stones until they find one that will leave a good finish on a razor after 8K. I would agree that they are mostly pre-polishers, some good, some not so good. I also agree that the term PHIG could be considered deragatory, so I'll try to stick with calling them a China Stone, as I can never remember how to spell Guangxi. Maybe it would help if I could pronounce it. I just can't use the term C12K simply because of what was mentioned above...trying to classify a natural as a specific grit. Not gonna happen.

Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Thanked: 1587What's in a name? I remember when I was a lad there was an old man who lived up the road that I became friends with. I used to go over there to mow his lawn and help with gardening etc, and he would tell me stories about WWII, the old days, important people in the town etc.
I remember one conversation as if it were only yesterday on the subject of names. He said to me:
"Little Jimbo, do you see that church on yonder hill? I built that church. Do people call me Harry the Church Builder? No."
I nodded sagely. He pointed to a picture on his wall.
"Little Jimbo, do you see that picture? That is a picture of me shearing 500 sheep in one day. Do people call me Harry the Gun Shearer? No."
Again, I nodded respectfully. He said
"Little Jimbo, I fought for King and Country in the War. Do people call me Harry the Hero? No.....
.....But have sex with one donkey......."

Thanked: 35I see more peopling agree that phig is not a nice name.
Me thinks this is the most appropriate name:
The Guanxgi(Jiangxi) polishing hone(GPH hone?). We know it comes
from Guangxi and the stone is a polisher(between 8k and 15k).

I am regularly called many cruel and insensitive names, mostly by my friends.
I wouldn't mind being called PHIG though, sounds sorta cool.
