Guillaume, that's definately a purple La Lune/Special Stone. They are very fine, enjoy!

Well its really hard to say from the pictures. To be honest, I am not totally convinced that this is a La Lune like Piet and Rockabillyhelge say. It could be of course, but I also got some new Yellow lake stones that have quite the same pattern than shown on your stone. Also looking at the colour I miss the reddish part - but this could be the ligth while taking the picture and the background.
Here again is a picture that shows a Special stone gray, a La Lune red and the Lorraine stone:



Unfortunately I could not take a detailed picture of the Yellow Lake stones now, but will hand in later. How was the feeling while lapping the stone? Is it a hard or a more soft stone?

Thanks for your comments! Actually the stone is not mine...The owner is PrinceVlad, we know each other from a french forum. And this lucky guy has a second one, the same stone, but much longer !

I agree with hatzicho, after seeing the Guillaume photos I do not think it is La Lune or Special stone. PrinceVlads stone looks similar to a variety of what has been referred to as Vosgienne type stone IMO.

Vosges stone

Wasn't the name Vosgienne coined for the purple Special Stones and la Lunes? At least that's how I remembered it.

You could be right about that Piet, sometimes I forget now…. I believe the term was first coined by Oldengarde. They are however, different than the Special Stones and La Lunes.

Mike (MODINE) i was always under the impression that a Vosgiennes Stone was more like a reddish color with a somewhat purple slurry, the one you have pictured looks greenish to me with white slurry?

Here are a few more comparison pics in sunlight and artificial light. These are different than the labeled Special stones or La lunes. Like most naturals they vary in size, performance characteristics and quality. While the mining location may be unknown, these came from Europe.
