I also got a comparable one with the same stains:
These stones were widely used by clockmakers for example (even so in germany, where these stones are not so present).Last edited by hatzicho; 02-10-2013 at 06:14 PM.

I have a similar looking hone I was given, I'd rate mine around the 4k level. YHMV (Your hone may vary)

Sort of looks like my grandfather's stone that he used for finishing the edge on his field knives.
He was a farmer who cut turnips & collard greens all week for over 40 years. He kept a Carborundum & this unknown stone on his truck's dash board.

Thanked: 480The washita stones I have had seemed to fall more between the soft ark, and the hard ark. Hirlau, yours could be either a Washi, or a hard ark, (just not as fine as a translucent)
