I feel the same way about the 20K. I love how well it finishes. The cost is up there but the results are great. Thanks for posting Steel!
BTW, How many laps did you try? I always go longer than most folks and I found it didn't cause an issue. So for me, this stone helps me in that my wanting to hones for hours on end, I dont get the foiled edge with the 20K when I do 100 laps. I'm trying to cut back. Is there an AA for honers?

I think I did about 20, then checked the edge with an HHT. I did 10 more and checked again. I didn’t notice an improvement so I stopped there. I probably could have stopped at 20. It’s a transition when you are used to doing a minimum of 50+ laps on a natural.

I don’t know that I got a “better” shave than with my naturals and the Thuringian I just got is pretty fast an easy too BUT when you are honing at these levels it is pretty subjective, me thinks, of what is “better”. I will reiterate that for a synthetic it impressed me though and it is nice to have some amazing options. Necessary? No. But nice

I shaved with a Gokumyo 20k edge, I found it as sharp and smooth as a good coticule edge.

The only thing I found it lacking was longevity, I barely made it through nine shaves before it required a touch up, as it started to cause skin irritation due to a deteriorated edge.

Compared to one of my coticule edges that easily last me 40+ shaves before I notice any sort of diminished performance I was slightly underwelmed.

But if you don't mind touching up a razor every seven/eight shaves, it works fine. Personally though, I wouldn't consider getting one at even half their market price.

    Best regards,
    Pieter

Very interesting. I have a good friend that kept a 20k edge going for months with just linen/strop I believe. I will have to consider that when playing around with this stone. Thanks.

That has been my experience. I have owned the stone since they became popular and have been very happy with all the razors that finish off it.

I still like a good old coticule edge but since owning the 20 k I have liked the feel of the edge very much so👍

Not alot of experience with razors finished on other hones but am very happy with the edge off the the 20K. Very sharp and comfortable for my face.

I'm still 100% devoted to the G20. Its one of the main reasons why I contribute so little here anymore. The G20 has been the last word on hones for me. My soap preferences are locked in. My Simpsons Polo ended my search for the best brush. Its all still quite fun but its all fairly predictable for me these days. The G20 was the best addition to my lineup in that it put an end to my search for new hones. Done.

It is of course very well possible that the person who honed it took the edge a bit too far.

As I said, a comfortable edge, but an expensive stone that wouldn't really add anything to my honing repertoire.

    Pieter
