    Wonderful pics, fuzzychops. If my math is correct, and it may not be, your photos are 100 times closer than Tom's and they speak volumes. They even show the part of the blade representing a very short term future fracture. In themselves, they could make another thread.

    These are the corresponding optical micrographs:

    These are essentially 1000x magnification, compared to 10,000x for the SEM images.
