Same here.
As I bought it only a few months back, this seems to be the way they ship it currently.
Bought from Tools From Japan because of reputation and lowest price, and would buy from them again. (Actually, I did. :-) )
Incidentally; I still prefer a few laps on CrOx, as it seems to give me a smoother edge for the first shave afterwards.
If I don't, it takes a shave or two before the blade reaches optimum smoothness.

I knew from the title that my wallet wouldn't want me to read this thread...but I clicked on it anyway. HEFAD (high end finisher ad) anyone?

Gentlemen,
I am a late comer to this thread. Suehiro Gokumyo 20000 upholds its reputation in my humble honing center: the kitchen sink. Lynn introduced me to the stone upon my visit to his chateau in Cape Girardeau. It is an almost magical finisher.

Thanked: 246The SG20k has had a few iterations/changes according to what I've read. The latest at this time comes with the rubber base, the rubbing/cleaning stone, and the hone itself separately wrapped in heatsealed plastic.
It is truly a formidable stone, IMO. Cuts very finely and very quickly. I recently did a small test with a piece of hardened steel I use to compare finishes from different stones (test finish surface is flat and about 3/8" in diameter) and had baseline finished the test piece with a 1500 grit Suehiro synth stone before taking it to the SG20k. The SG20k took that 1500 grit finish and honed it right down to 20k finish within about 60 - 80 laps. I know for sure that it erased all the 1500 scratches as I honed the finishes at 90° to each other. Very impressive for such a high grit stone.Last edited by eKretz; 09-15-2014 at 11:27 AM.

Thanked: 18I don't have a 20K stone, but I use more Cro than stones when necessary. Touch up on Frictionite or Escher.
