Thanked: 4827So I guess according to the illustrations the the blood groove is properly called a fuller line or a fuller groove or perhaps just a fuller blade. So a swaged blade is formed with dies, which is kind of what sharptonn had suggested already. Nice to see the book has already tarted the learning and not just for the owner.

Thanked: 4206Will start a new thread in the workshop forum as we learn over here, pics of particularly salient pages and the like. If my lad's expressing an interest, I'm all in. There will be some kind of forge at the Bolton homestead before the snow starts to fly again. So I have a couple of weeks at least, haha.

Wow, too bad I missed this one, but I'm glad I found and read it! ... I had my grind names wrong. I thought the rattler was the faux frameback.
Well anyway I've read that "bloodlets" (those blood grooves mentioned) ARE in fact to relieve pressure to allow a blade to be pulled out faster.
And holy cow! Those blades you guys posted... beautiful!
I really like true rattles. Those blades paper thin and flat all the way up to a solid spine, all one piece... they REALLY SING to you!
Thanks for the info and laughs!
Oh and Sharpton... you big bully... LMAO

Count me in on the confused/misusing lot; although I have worked with my own definitions:
- Frame razor: a razor with a blade stuck in a a frame spine and tang
- Frame back razor: a razor with only its back/spine framed
- Faux frame back razor: a razor with a thin wedge-type grind as if its spine is a frame - but it's not
I like the rattler, frame back, faux frame back definitions though, a wiki update seems long overdue.
For the record: I consider all of these to be shoulderless grinds, as they have no shoulder . Shoulderlessness (I know, I know...) to me is just a feature, not a defining characteristic of a razor; you have them on hollow ground razors too.

Thanked: 1371The nature of a wiki is that it's user edited... If someone doesn't like it, it can be changed.
This entire thread is a good reminder of why I spend much much much less time here than I used to.Last edited by HNSB; 08-23-2015 at 03:02 AM.
