The thing that sticks out from this thread is Robin's assertion that he hones purely for himself - but then goes on to criticise comments from Glen - who has honed how many thousands of razors?

Robin, just in case you feel tempted to respond and cut and paste ad. infinitum - please save yourself the bother.

Anyone who has honed any number of razors will tell you the TPT is the only one.
My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.

I didn't know that Devine knew anything about honing.

My response here was to a post that has either been removed or edited out of recognition.
something to the effect of honing and hand of god yada yada HHT.
I'm glad this useless response was put to some humorous use.

Sooo........back to the original topic. If a razor is honed on synthetics to an 8k-10k level, would finishing on a coticule be best done by starting with slurry, or with water alone?

I use a light slurry from there,, then dilute out The keenness is already there, you are just looking for a finish at that point in time

I think it might depend on your coticule and your slurry. You might unnecessarily be dropping back down by using slurry. Eventually you might as well try it both ways, but I lean toward disagreeing with Glen (only this once) and thinking you might as well go straight to water on the coticule after an 8-10k synthetic. If I were to use any slurry at this point it would be very thin.

Thanks guys. My first coticule is in the mail, I am mainly looking to take some of the "crispiness" out of the edge. I'm hoping to (at least somewhat) replicate the Zulu Grey edge Glen put on a couple of my razors (so why did I buy a Coticule?).

Ya know, I bought the last of the african Frog hair for HHT testing, it is the only hair approved for HHT testing in America.

Where are you located in Wisconsin? If you are within traveling distance of Rochester MN you would be welcome to come to my place where you could play with several more coticules, as well as a couple of Zulus, and a few other hones.

Thank you for the kind offer. I tried to PM you, but your inbox is full. As much as I could use some help, my current schedule won't let me get away. If the offer stands, February may work.
