Mike - here's Jimmy's post about the size of the Escher stones:
JimmyHAD:
"I have a Barber's Delight (Escher) 5 1/2"x2" and a couple of earlier Eschers that are 5"x2 1/2". I've had a few come and go that were 7"x1 1/2" and a couple 8 or so x 1 3/4" or so.
IIRC, never had one, the 10" is 2" wide. It seems that Escher, AFAIK, made stock sizes with no oddball variations. At least in their regular production."
This range of measurement seems to be where they live. I have both the longer and thinner Escher stone and the shorter and wider....generally, if it's an Escher, you'll be bang on to one of those two specs.

I managed to find this lovely vintage Coti last week. Never found a Coti I liked to shave off until now. A lovely smooth edge was my reward on a vintage Sheffield .
Sorry pic should be rotated but I was using my mobile.Last edited by alpla444; 05-28-2017 at 06:35 PM.

Just had a session and found some weird results..
Took my W&B 7/8ths & my brothers Westy Rattler.
I did , 1/5/10k Chosera / 16k Shapton Glass / Blue Green Escher (60 laps with slurry + 50 laps with water)
I used the scope to keep an eye on the westy and took the odd picture but after the Escher I noticed what looked like , me missing the very edge , so I added a layer of thin electrical tape to the thick layer I always use.
This had no effect .
The very edge was showing a micro bevel , if you will, caused by the Escher.
Why the Escher had not hit the whole bevel is beyond me...
Set up
W&B 5k (Beautiful)
W&B 10k
W&B 16k
W&B Escher
Westy 16k

Thanked: 1081Did you replace the tape regularly? Worn tape means you wont reach the edge, then you added tape over the top of existing tape, if ever so slightly more will create a micro-bevel.
Just my thoughts... give it a shave anyway, micro bevels can give nice edges.

I used fresh tape from the off, then after 5k, then after 16k..
When I noticed the part that could represent not touching the hone I added another layer which made no difference. Meaning the shiny bit rite on the edge was not caused by missing the stone but that part was the only part touching the stone..
If that is understandable?
Basically when I hit the Escher only the very edge was touching?
The tape didn't even need changing after 16k?

Besides the addition of the tape, your still a couple hundred or so passes short...for an Escher, IMHO
Have used Thuri's for awhile now, and just used the Escher yesterday. Watching in a 40× loupe, it took well over 200 passes ( slurry-water ) to remove what the Coti created.Mike

Its very strange.. A shiny part near the edge always means that the shiny part is not touching the hone but in this weird case its the opposite, it is the only part touching the hone.
I'm totally lost and bewildered , walking around in a daze :/
