I can relate. Wedges are a challenge and I, like you, have learned to split it up into a few sessions rather then tackle it all at once and get frustrated. They are worth it in the end. Good work.
I can't agree more. They always seem to put up a struggle for me. Patience over frustration is my method with them. Love the shave from a wedge. Have only had 1 so far that just seemed to take a great edge with little fight :)
They are rare indeed. It just so happens I had one a week or two ago. A W&B that I was prepare to spend an hour or two honing and low and behold it was an easy one. I’m not counting on that happening again any time soon. :rofl2:
EDIT: Scratch that. I looked back and it wasn’t a wedge it was a hollow ground. I guess that makes it an even rarer event. :tu
Did these 3 this weekend. Well my weekend. One was a German razor but two were Swedish steal. I'm afraid that one of the Swedish razors just didn't come out very well. Spent a lot of time on it and it wasn't an issue with geometry, just so damn hard! The steal in this Erik Anton is so hard I think I'll have to give it another try on the stones before its right. I'm getting ready for the test shave and will still give it a try but my hopes are not high for this one. BTW, The German razor (the one in the back or far left) needed the stabilizer worked over. It had a bit of a hook starting. I think it came out just right. Best job I've done on a stabilizer to date.

GD 66. Spyderco M F UF. Haven't been missing my naturals or having to lap water stones. Why didn't anyone mention these 3 years ago to me?
As expected the E.A. was a bust. Got to go back and try agian. Damn that thing is hard steel!
Some finishing hones most frequently used.
