Picked up this 6/8 CV Heljestrand dressed in ivory recently and I finally got around to honing it today. Bevel set on Chosera 1k, then dilucot on La Veinette coticule, then hit a few licks on an Ozuku Asagi. This is my first time honing and shaving with a CV and I definitely see that they live up to the hype. The results were astounding. It took an edge like nobodies business. Beautifully buttery smooth shave. I love it.

Funny to be posting this here but I am hoping to unearth what this hone is and figure the more exposure the better.
Here are two pics of the hone.
Not following protocol for estimating grit, I simply chose a razor that I would have touched up on the SG20K before stropping.
My possibly faulty logic is that if it were a mid range hone, it would demolish the edge. It didn't, 40 laps with water only, and stropping lead to a perfectly fine shave...not legendary. The hone had the feedback of a barber's hone, which is practically none (scientifically based on my one barber hone).
I threw in the pic of the chipping thinking it might help ID the hone.
Apologies if I am flailing around in the wrong place"Call me Ishmael"

Thanked: 351That looks like a natural belgian combo to me. The first picture looks exactly like my bbw.

Here's my hone of the day. Well of yesterday technically. I've been testing barber hones lately. Just as a personal experiment to see if there is any noticeable difference between a finished edge and a barber hone edge.
So I honed my trusty keen kutter royal up to shave ready on a coticule and shave tested. Went extremely well. Smooth and close. Then 8 laps on my old swaty hone with lather. Can't wait to shave tonight.
Interestingly enough the shave off the swaty was very comfortable and close. I even did an ATG pass on my neck which I've never done before. No prep either just warm water and then lathered up. I don't see any problem or discomfort shaving off a swaty.Last edited by s0litarys0ldier; 12-11-2015 at 09:24 PM.

Thanked: 3795Is the slurry off of it remotely of a purple color? If so, then it is likely to be a natural combo coticule. If you can lap out most of the gouges out of the coticule side you may like that side a lot better. You don't need to remove all of the gouges if you can round over their edges with some sandpaper wrapped around your finger.

That purple slurry is a dead give away for me. BBW all the way. I have used it and thought meh, but the edge was HELLO. Not a full finisher but an amazing hair popper coming off a 1K bevel set.
Your only as good as your last hone job.

Guys at first glance I too thought it was a combo coticule by the way the light is reflecting off the hone. It is a one sided hone not a combo coticule. Take a good hard look at that photo. The light is giving the allusion of a yellow side when it is indeed a large face of the hone reflecting light.
