Today's hone, two new items to check out. First a CVH MK30 in Ivory on a nice sized Pierre Du Sud Ouest(223mm×45mm×14mm). I had been looking for a nice example for a while now.

    Default Translucent Arkansas touchup

This razor had been borderline for a while now and needed a touch up. Mike, Outback, had honed it previously when he restored the razor for me. He had told me at the time the razor needed a rolling x stroke. I put on a layer of tape and marked it with a sharpie and did a couple of straight x strokes to see what it looked like and it definitely needed a rolling x stroke.
I wanted to start it out as aggressively as the translucent will do so began on it dry and then went to the sink and progressed from water to soap. Then finished with oil and spent some time at each step. I've been finishing of late with a CrOx slurry and previous to that I'd always finish on a CrOx pasted strop, so this time I wanted to see how she shaved just finishing on leather. I was really pleased with the shave and I think a couple more stropping sessions and she'll be even smoother.

Paul, try stropping between laps or between progressions.

I strop after 8k on a firehose strop or chrome oxide sailcloth. Lately I have been using a plane firehose more. It is visibly more aggressive. And removes any burr and cleans the edge. Then mid-way through the finish stone and at the end.

You don’t need much 10 or so laps. Then back to the stone. When you think you are finished, strop on plain leather, then a few more lite laps on the stone and finish on leather again.

I can tell the difference by tree-topping hair on my arm, and seeing, feeling and hearing the difference in the cut that a stropping, finish honing and stropping progression makes.

And yes, shaves a dream. Works for other stones, not just Arks.

I also strop on Chrome Oxide canvas after 1k.

I had to give these a go today, I had the razor a couple of months but only now gave it a full go now that I found and restored a matching strop. NOS C-MON Red Diamond straight razor and a matching C-MON Red Diamond strop on a Pierre Du Sud Ouest.Name: DSC01047.jpg

Thank you Sir. Nice and thick too, 4mm-5mm just like my Red Imp strop.

Here is my honing this weekend. 2 finished on 20k, 2 on Thuri and one on an Apart Barber Hone. That oldie with the huge curved tip was a fhn. Doing all the sweeping and such. Dont want to have to do that too often but the original edge i put on it was lacking at the heal so i did it again. Now its good to the stabilizer.

My sister found these Henkle's and asked if I could sharpen them. Used a coti that needs a little lapping, so it was a perfect time to use it on these and it took a razor's edge. Name: DSC01035.jpg

First, Iwasaki Boso. Hard tempered razor. I thought that just going to a midrange stone with slurry and finish will do it on this one. Nope, edge was underdeveloped and the shave wasn't good.
Had to actually pull out the trusted mizuasagi and do full nagura progression and eventually 2 different tomo sessions to get the edge perfect. Finally on the very light slurry very light strokes it hit the sweet spot of shaving ATG like butter. Very comfy edge.
Second is a cape razor that had a coticule edge and I wanted to push further. So what better than trying my new barbers delight. Well it's a delight to use, no pun intended
It puts a nice and comfortable edge without much fuss. Comparing to Iwasaki it was a tad behind but not by much.
