Some really dull workshop scissors got me looking at YouTubes.
I think I have learned the drill, so I am going after them with a worn DMT.

If I get it right, I think I will touch-up my CMon barber shears on the 4/8.

I wanted to test my new loupe today so I started working on the Fontenille New Primerose razor. It was a cheap buy, there is some corrosion on the blade and the scales are shrinking - a perfect candidate.
The progression was: Nani 1k, Hayabusa 4k, Fuji 8k, Nani 12k, strop
I set the bevel a while ago, but I wanted to wait for the loupe before continuing.
I could clearly see a reflection exactly on the edge, so it went back to the 1k until I didn't see that reflection.
After the 4k I could see that the stria was finer. The same after the 8k.
Then I had an idea: I strapped the loupe to my phone with elastic bands and this is the result:
    Just off the 8k

    Off the 12k

The edge is at about HHT3 and shaves my arm hairs easily.
    Test shave tomorrow!

Have you compared this glass 8k to a Snow White 8k? Or has anyone?

Let hear about the scissors Tom. I think i might want to give this a try some day.

    Great idea!
I think you're on to something. It looks like it worked great and is worth a try.
This might be the next new trend.

    It works great!
I have been sticking my loupe over my camera lens for a long time taking close-ups.

Do you use digital zoom too?

Yes, I have them both. I prefer the Shapton HC, it seems finer and makes a bit smoother edge. The HC also has smoother honing feedback. And it doesn’t crack, lol.

I have a couple of friends across the south, both have had multiple Snow Whites, one has had 4 (he really liked them). All of them cracked. Mine wasn’t cracking so I sent it to my friend in FL. He was watching it carefully and sure enough, it started developing fine cracks - he said that’s how his started and he sent the stone back to me. I’m going to lap it down with SiC but the SW seems particularly prone to cracking. That’s kind of a deal breaker for me. But basically it’s just an 8k Chosera.

I don’t understand what’s causing the cracking, one friend lives in Nashville (I’m in Knoxville) and the other is in Lake City, FL. We (FL) both used bottled water. I assume that it’s the drying rate but Nashville’s atmosphere/humidity is not that much different from Knoxville’s, we’re only about 200 miles apart.

Yes, usually to get focus or get the circle of the loupe out of the picture.
Mostly to capture small details like this...5X loupe.

Never used it for much smaller stuff, although it could be handy

I was over at The Shave Room (UK) and ran across a post on razor hones by Neill Miller (RIP). His comment that the 10K Chosera cracking could be prevented by lapping before use was interesting. Might work for the Snow White too?

Too late for me. My 10 k crazed something fierce maybe 5 years ago. Mark at cktg did give me 75% credit which was very reasonable. I did settle for a suehiro 10 and loved it. Its lower priced and finishes better imo than the chosera 10.
