    With the help of a long distance friend I am gonna be busy over the next week or so, I received a couple nice Kiita stones along with lots of nagura’s to test out.

    First up up is a Kiita using a teniyou, mejiro and tomo progression coming off a Shapton 4K GS

    William got me wanting to do a mikawa progression so i honed up this newly re-scaled Le Grelot Lotus. Progression was bevel set on a Shapton Glass HR 4k followed by botan, mejiro, and a nice leopard spot koma. DuPont 1mil Kapton kept the gold wash pristine. My host stone was a hard blue-green Nakayama. Then I finished on a piece of hard, fine karasu and tomo.

    The shave was superb! Love that French steel.

    Cheers, Steve

    @rideon66:

    Nice piece, I’ve been using the slurry from a lovely piece of hato recently.

    Working it to death after finishing a synthetic progression to 8K. I’ve done about a dozen razors so far and all of these hato edges have been superb; sharper than anything I can get of my naniwa 12k and light years smoother.

    The edges have been on par with what I was getting from 0.125um CBN use after the naniwa 12k.

    Thanks.

    Are you using hato just as a slurry stone? What base stone are you using. I just started experimenting with the various uchigumori slurry on various base stones .

    Enjoy

    I've been using it on a very hard shobudani mizu asagi, so there is no auto slurring from the base stone (a tiny bit of base stone is picked up when forming the slurry) and the slurry breaks down fairly slowly.

    Mappin Lancet-Edge razor. Probably made between 1848 and 1858

    Honed on Shapton glass stones 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000 and finished on a Shapton Pro 12000. This was a relatively lightly worn blade, although there was some corrosion as you might expect with a razor this old. This was taken care of at the bevel setting stage and a very good edge was obtained after honing with the full Shapton set. Now shaving very well

    A Tally-Ho,C.T.Bingham razor (with fancy epoxy and wire on one end,holding up well) honed on a coticule with no backing in a custom made box looks to be made of mahogany.
