Thanked: 1081Im glad it was worth the wait. I've only seen that shape of scales on a few LeCoultres, must be quite rare. Enjoy!

Two American classics in today, all the way from Houston Texas, a big shout out to my friend Tom AKa Sharptonn for his wonderful act of kindness, the Torrey 199 is off to another friend Mark in London.

Already shave ready, some sort of a Jnat edge but it needed a touch up. Went to koma then tomo. This Jnat breaks down the slurry fairly quickly. Shave was pretty good.
The razor is an old kamijo boso.

Refreshed my Rugby 1072 on one of Alex Gilmore’s Nakayama hoard koppas. A great piece of stone, and it does not absorb water. I have a couple more like that, and they haven’t been used with oil or honing solution that I can tell, Alex’s stone certainly has not.
My doorstop is a Nakayama

Took 2 Swedish framebacks that were honed without tape and finishing both with 1 layer of tape to create a micro bevel.
One finished on the Suehiro 20K, the other on a La Grise Coticule; both under running water.
Shave was excellent, I was pleasantly surprised by the Coticule.
Keenness wise both were excellent and rivaled one another, barely any difference.
Coticule definitely felt friendlier on the skin and is the preferred out of the 2.
Next I'm honing another Swedish frameback and finishing with 1 later of tape on a Thuringer for a side by side comparison.
For me this is the only way I can max out my Coticules, it works excellent and pretty much the only way for me to use them. These edges are superb and probably my preferred finishing and shaving edge so far.

Thanked: 133I have been letting my GF pick out what razor I use until I go through all of mine. Been at it for a while and le toothpicks turn finally came around. 3/8 grelot on a coticule. Took off 3 or 4 days of growth with ease! Have a good Sunday all.

Finished an Eskilstuna razor on a La Petite Blanche Coticule.
I wasn't expecting much, as I had a similar stone some years ago and sold it because I couldn't get it to work for me.
Well, I'll be damned.
Took a razor that was already shave-ready that was finished on a 20K, added 1 layer of tape and did 20 finishing strokes under running water on my LPB. DAMN. This is what smooth feels like.
I've tried everything with the BBWs and Coticules, but this method delivers for me.
I do this with my La Grise as well and it feels a tad less sharp/keen while shaving.
The LPB surely doesn't, I was surprised how well it cuts and shaved, while being very smooth and forgiving.
Great edges, little differences between Coticules, but damn, these are fun stones.
I like them better than the BBW for finishing.
The BBW is a bit "too keen / sharp" perhaps for my skin.
Finishing under running water is also smoother than finishing on them dry, that's for sure.
I finally found the right balance between keen and smooth.
The Coticule smoothness, I get it now.

Thanked: 13245Yep, I need more coffee
But I do get to test a new Slate this morning too so there is that"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"
