I use a piece of 1/8 lead sheet folded over with tape on the handle portion. It's an ages-old method to smooth the edge.
A razor blade will not retain any of it. Just wipe it off good. I recently got a vintage strop tool.
Looks like aluminum will work too?

Thanked: 1081So any lead ingot would work? Do you just rub it on?

Yep...stick in wheel weights. I just remove the glue with acetone.
I hear lead is better when pasted to a leather strop, but I don't have one I want to do that with, so I used an extra linen strop instead. Seems to work just fine.!
Lay it out flat on a counter top, and start rubbing with the lead. It doesn't need to be heavy. It'll look like you colored it with a pencil, though.Mike
