A pipe and coffee and a translucent novaculite hone. What a great combination!

What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Love finishing razors on this blue-green Escher (just enough label to tell) I picked up from Tim Zowada in the area formerly known as Classifieds. Before hitting this awesome natural, I started out lower than usual on the Naniwas (5-8-10-12) given the Carbonsong steel. I'm looking forward to the test shave tomorrow when I have a bit more stubble to mow down.

5 in for the weekend back out Monday only one gave me a little problem the Filarmonica 14 came with a nasty little chip in the middle of the blade all sorted now.

My choice of honing music this week as been a blast from my youth the great album Transformer by Lou Reed.

Honed one of my favourites tonight. My Hart steel custom.
Took a while to set the bevel. I was having trouble with the middle of the blade even though it removed ink.
I realised the Chosera 1k needed lapping as it was dished out .
After lapping it took no time at all.

I began my progression with the Tsushima Nagura, then through the others , all the way to a DMT slurry.

Its popping hairs like a mad man at the moment , ill shave tonight with it.

One thing I noticed is how fast my Nakayama took away the 1k scratches . The other night I honed a different 01 steel razor and the 1k scratches didn't really get gone until the final Nagura.

Maybe different tempering techniques makes for harder steels?

First time on the stones in some time today.
Tried my hand at the jnats. This little Tomo from Tom does not want to give up its slurry very easily I must say.

This old family heirloom Boker for a friend of my daughter, and this WB Rattler may still see the Escher before the day is done.
    Test shave first.
    Cheers.

Looking good Mike. My hone of the day was a fun one. Picked up these 2 razors from the flea market. Pulled out the three amigos and first time through wouldn't you know. Im getting good at this honing thing. 2 years ago I wouldn't know what to do. The shapleigh had a frown that I fixed on a not pictured fine India stone. After the frown was corrected it honed up very easily. Name: IMG_0467.jpg

    VC (Victory over Coticule) day!

So I spent the day buffing the tar out of most of my natural stones with a cotton wheel and chromox paste. Eventually this included the coticule. Yes, I have burnished that which usually ought not be burnished! And finally got a DFS out of the Germania Cutlery Works razor honed on the stone while I was at it.
