Okay, since TC already stole the idea for getting his razors honed, my challenge is this: I don't think there's a mower out there that can cut grass better than my Husqvarna 22hp riding mower. I challenge anybody with their fancy zero-turns or "natural" mowers to come to my house and prove me wrong.

Hey, it's worth a try. Maybe you could even hone my mower blades while you're here!

To get this to work we would have to meet halfway. Who is halfway? Maybe outback.... I could take the north side and you the south of his yard.

Kylie there's a Couple of guys around here who will vouch that I will tell you the truth even at the expense of hurt feelings, I,m not known to be the nice guy, and from an ex ranger, airborne I really have tough skin myself, but I,m glad you like that razor , and ATG is the best test as far as I'm concerned, I have a wire beard full of thick grey hair and it's a fair test of an edge, ask Roy he'll tell that I,ll give you the down and dirty, plus if it's great I,ll sing your praises too. As for the lawn ,, I,ll take a pass. Scout..
Scott bring em to Charlie's, but just so you know Dave done one of my razors with the Shapton 16k. I will say it's a pretty great edge.. Tc

Pretty funny-Those goats would probably eat up my roses too! This whole thread now reminds me of the famous scene in which Tom Sawyer gets his friends to whitewash Aunt Polly's fence, and even to pay him for the privilege, with a dead rat on a string among other treasures.

I'll confess that the goats don't belong to me, but to some guy who lives nearby. You'll regularly see him out walking them. Yes they would eat your roses but on the positive side, you wouldn't need to buy fertilizer after they got done 'mowing' for the season.

    Now back on topic.

What goes round come round. I've helped Prodigy in the past and it was my pleasure to do so.

Now as tc has said, he calls things as he sees them and he's fussy. I've honed for him and he's been pleased. I hope he's pleased with the edge off of the Jnat.

I'm sure your J-nat edges are up to snuff, Roy-I hope to get an opportunity to play around with some more naturals beside my PHIG some day, though it seems every extra dollar we scrounge these days goes to remodeling our aging house. I need to convince the wife that a J-Nat, a thuri, and a nice Arkie are all part of that plan.

I don't own any Jnat rocks.

I started with a King 800, a King 1200 and the Norton 4/8K. After a while I was getting nice edges and could be happy with them for the rest of my life.

I gave the 800 away to help a guy get started honing.

Later on I added a Naniwa 12K and used it as a finisher for quite awhile.

A friend gave me a PHIG. It's ok, but I like the edge off of the Naniwa much better.

After speaking with a well respected honer I purchased a Zulu Grey. I really like the edges off of it.

A friend gave me an Arkansas Hard Black. It's ok but the Zulu is far superior in my humble opinion.

About a year ago I picked up the Chorosa 1K just to speed up bevel setting.

A friend in Germany found a Belgium Yellow/Blue for me and I've been playing with it and have been pleased, but I'm still learning it. Currently it's on loan for an evaluation by the above mentioned honer.

With all this said; If I were to drop and break my Naniwa 12K, the Zulu, the Arkie, the PHIG, and didn't have the funds to replace it, I would be happy living off of that Norton 8K edge for the rest of my life.

However If I were to drop and break that Norton 4/8 I'd eat peanut butter sandwiches day in and day out until I could save up to buy another one.

I've said it time and time again; IF you can't get a CCC (Clean-Close-Comfortable) shave off of a 8K hone, then your wasting your money buying higher grit stones.

There are no 'Magic' hones that you can wave your blade across and have the edge mystically transformed.

    I really like what Glen (GSSIXGUN) says;

    Quote:

"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

Well the clouds are disappearing, the suns out and I don't want to sit here all day so I'm off for a ride on the Harley.
