On my screen your bevel shows at 3/4" so divided by .5mm [.02"] that's about 40x.
I don't think that magnification power really works that way, but that's how I think.
Just took a look at wikipedea, maybe I am thinking correctly.
"Optical magnification is the ratio between the apparent size of an object (or its size in an image) and its true size, and thus it is a dimensionless number. Optical magnification is sometimes referred to as "power" (for example "10× power"), although this can lead to confusion with optical power."Last edited by bluesman7; 11-22-2017 at 09:15 PM.

I tried to think about it that way and came to the same conclusion. That dont work. As on my screen the bevel is 1.25 inches wide. And you know its the same for you and me. I just cant see and have everything blown up to see it. Ha. Acording to the microscope, and I'd be the first one to call it BS, Its 300X. But the pics are cool as hell if nothing else!
Here is a pic of another razor I've been working on. Not as good looking of a bevel but its close. I think with another 2 years I might be able to hone...

Thanked: 3225You know, I thought I could see it in the first photo and this one too. When you look at the very edge the edge looks it is reflecting light and is at a different angle from the bevel. Almost the way you would expect it to show when using a loupe and bright light and the two bevels do not completely meet. The again this is viewed from a usb scope which I have no experience with so maybe I am completely wrong.

The bevels were set for sure. At least they were before I left the lower grit stones so I'd think they are fine. Popping hairs and passing the TPT. So its possible that its the USB reflecting light funny. Or a distortion. Who knows. But thanks for pointing it out Bob. I value your opinion!

I see what your talking about on the edge, as if it is rounded over a bit. Hard to say what it really is. Try positioning you light 'edge on' the way I do. If you don't remember this, I'll show you at the meet.
The whole magnification thing goes out the window when you start doing things on computer monitors and such. For example, if you projected a true 40x image onto a screen 10 times as big, you don't get a 400x image. You get an enlarged 40x image. What is unsaid is the resolution of the image and why a high quality optical microscope can be so good. I've heard people say that some of the digital microscopes are digitally enhanced. I'm not sure that this is desirable for our purposes.
I took my own microscope to the Wisconsin meet for this exact reason. I knew that there would be other scopes there, but I wanted to view with the same set up that I'm used to.Last edited by bluesman7; 11-22-2017 at 11:12 PM.

GOOD NEW... Bob and Vic... and all who have been following.
Shave test went well, I've been having a bit of comfort problems after my shaves lately. And by the look of some of those edges full of ugliness its no wonder.
Not razor burn as my skin didn't get sensitive or red but the Pinaud burned more than it has in a few months. This time all was much better. Still a little burn but I got to expect some. Using original Pinaud. Its a little harsh. Its what I use for testing. Did all my standard shaving preps (consists of a shower) Face lathered with a cream and used all 4 razors. I couldn't say one felt sharper or more comfortable as they all seemed to do the job just the same. after the shave I stropped and then did an HHT and 2 of them were only splitting hair at the heal but popping the rest of the edges.
I know I still got a ways to go before I'm a "pro Honer" but I feel its getting better all the time. Cutting down the time on the 12K might have helped some too. So the edge was just fine and the look was just from the lighting or something. I did see what you where talking about in the pics. I had also seen some distortion from the camera in a couple of the pics. So its not top quality, but its good enough to check the edge for chips.
All is good! It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 1936Tying an edge from magnified view to a quality shaving edge has been made. Let it burn itself into your memory. Congratulations!
