Thanked: 2209They are different animals. The chinese stone is very hard compared to the Escher family which are soft stones. They give different results on the razors. The Escher family of hones will result in a more comfortable edge but the Chinese stone, which is slower cutting, gives a very sharp, but not as comfortable, edge. These are my impressions and you mileage may vary!

Randy, have you ever tried using a slurry on the 12K Chinese stones?

Thanked: 0I am based in Germany but am British - if my brethren in the UK want me to order them a stone for delivery to me, and then post it on, I am more then happy to offer my services.
Cheers

Thanked: 4pokkuhlag I think it's a blue stone like the second lot on the mueller page. I suppose it's like a belgian blue.
Sunsi, I may take you up on that offer if I don't get a reply from mueller by email. Mind you I might try phoning them as at the very least my broken German is bound to amuse them.

I'd like to know too!
An 8" x 2" thuringen shipped to the UK for $30? That sounds almost too good to be true... but, if it is, I'd like to get one for my collection.

Thanked: 0thuringen?
I looked at that toolshop link. It calls it a natural stone and states that it is fine. Can Tony or anybody here for a fact what that stone is? Is it really a Thuringen? Thanks.
