I don't know what Windlass even means,,
Windlass Steelcrafts originates in India and has companies in U.S.A. and U.K. these days.
I believe they still supply the Indian Gurkha regiments with kukri, but can't be sure.

The notch is to let blood drip off the blade in battle so one could still use his kukri without his hand slipping from the blood.

Why do you like this one more than the others?

John, I don't necessarily like this one best, but over the years (very recently too)
I've had known junkies/dealers knocking on my door to see if anyone was home,
    prior to a possible burglary.

When I open the door and I've got this in one hand and a sharpening stone in the other,
they always say 'sorry, wrong flat' and beat a hasty retreat.

This particular kukri was not expensive and if I had to use it, I would not lose any sleep
if it ended up in a police evidence room for 6 or 12 months.

I'm not trying to sound macho or boastful, it's just that my other kuks are VERY precious
to me and I don't want the possibility of not getting one of the others back
    after a possible trial.

I contacted my friend in Kathmandu with personal specifications for a kuk
for a "particular purpose"and this was the result.

Nobody touches my stash of Pinaud
