At work I cary a Zero Tolerance Mudd andy my issued Gerber multi-tool. At home I carry my benchmade 940, something a little smaller and lighter, but just as high quality. I highly reccomend benchmade if you're looking for a durable EDC

I agree. They're definitely one of my favourites. My local blade store doesn't like to sell any other brands to military guys because he's so confident in their quality and customer service.
I just find most of them are a little big for civilian edc.Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.

They are awesome. A little pricey for me, but I'm cheap. That being said they are worth the money.

So I have been playing around with my new Spyderco. You just had to know I would have to reprofile it.
I think it came with something north of 40 inclusive. Which was cool - I mean it was sharp - I just prefer a less "aggressive " angle.
The knife still occupies too much room in the pocket to be a practical edc for me BUT, I am really digging this S30V. I think it would be a great hunting/camping steel. It's way hard.
I note it does the paper cutting ok, but it's as though it's asking, "serious?" It just begs to be abused! And when you do - it's up to it.
It was a pleasure to profile. I found it really needed a hard stone to finish it off. My Chinese 12k and it had a love affair.
I think I'll play with this thing for a bit and see if this steel is all that I am finding it right now. If it is - I'll need to find a edc with the same steel. So far it's putting that Benchmade 154 blade I have to shame lol. We'll see.
p.s. I bet this steel would love an Ark edge.
What do you guys think of the steel? Am I on track?Last edited by earcutter; 08-10-2014 at 02:50 PM.

Sweet knife. I have a few knives with s30v and it's a great steel for cutting. A word of caution though, it does get micro chips. I find that it can retain an edge fantastically, but that comes at a cost of being a little brittle. For example many knife steels' edge will roll with heavy use but s30v will micro chip, in my experience. I'm a big fan of the steel because edge retention is my preference. I sharpen mine on Chosera stones.

Thanked: 284So back on post 704 I put out sob story about losing my benchmade Doug Ritter mini grip. I bought a slim 530 which I really like, but then I get an email from Knife works that they have the Doug Ritter in M390 for $129! Hit the purchase button and here she is...

Here is mine... about a year on my pocket now. It replaced my long-lived-beaten-to-juice swiss soldier, that gave up and jumped on a hydroelectric powerplant dam. I always liked Puma knives, but I wasn't confortable with the idea to put my universal taschenmesser on duty, so I got this one to beat and to let the pretty old universal at his confy velvet bed at home.
I like it, apparently is the same steel than my swiss ones, takes a good edge and the cartridge extractor is perfect to open beer bottles. It cuts, open bottles, have fancy Sambar scales, a blade lock and isn't too beefy.

It was sort of inevitable I guess.
This knife has been on my radar for months on end, and now it should be here pretty shortly.
They do come with somewhat of a price-tag, so if I hadn't experienced their superb craftmanship combined with top notch materials I would not have spent this much on a cutting tool!.
Anyways, here's a pic from their website, Rockstead.jp:
(Oh boy, will I ever post my own pics when in hand )

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

It is as robust as it is beautiful.
