I prefer traditional patterns either 2 or3 blades. Favorites are great eastern cutlery, canal street, queen, or wr case.

Thanked: 227Today I received a lansky world legal. This thing is a beast, far too big for EDC in the city here. I think it will become my out walking knife.

I got my Talon today! It's a beautiful knife. Absolutely beautiful. It's clearly well constructed.
It's a long knife with a blade just under 5", and when folded, its closed length is 6". But its narrowness makes it much more pleasant to carry than my smaller Spyderco Sage - the knife it's intended to replace. Considerably easier really. The width of the Spyderco locked onto the front pocket, really hindered when placing the hand in pocket. You always felt it - it was just wide enough to always be in the way. The Talon is so narrow, it sits to the back of the pocket like a charm, and hinders considerably less than the Spyderco.
Of course being so long, it sits deep in the pocket - but you can hardly tell it's there.
I party on the ceiling
Of course, being so long you might wonder how it feels in the hand. It balances behind the pivot, but it feels great in the hand. I am rather surprised at how natural it feels in the hand. The blades thinness really gives you the illusion that you are handling a much smaller knife. Its weird - a good weird.
Being so new to me, I can't really speak to how it'll freak people out. So far my wife loves it. As does my boss lol. But it no doubt looks extremely aggressive. Which inevitably always leads to the question, "Why do you want such a big knife?"
Well the reason I want a big blade (after years of carrying small knifes), is so that I can actually use it for more than box cutting and envelope opening. This thing will dice up an apple, onion, or anything in the kitchen I wish to chop up. Heck I bet I could take down a side of beaf with it were I to have one handy .
All said and done I am well pleased. I haven't had it long enough to speak to the steel or the finish, but the little I have used it, has proven to be very positive. I hope that it stays that way.
I haven't been able to "flick" it open yet. Once I get that down though, I best be judicious when doing so as the knife really is purposeful looking - and not the purposeful I intend it for either lol.
I'll carry it for a while and determine if this is "the one" I'll carry for the next few years. If not - and a small knife is what's needed, I would be very tempted to buy another Extrema Ratio after just owning this one for a short as I have. I can't express enough how well built this thing feels .David

My edc during hunting season. [Hella Futura] maybe I am a little paranoid but the snap is more for a lefty than me a righty. I found an idea to use a clove hitch and cut a piece of leather to try it. What do you use? I am not interested in speed but want a one handed ability.

Thanked: 1587I've got one of those from years ago - my father bought it for me. Is it just that you cannot find US made ones anymore (ie made in china or something?), because I'm pretty sure I've seen new ones for sale here.
I have a swiss army knife I carry around in my backpack which does pretty much everything I need it to do when I'm out and about (peeling apples is about it really).
Someone gave me a carbon-steel single blade folding knife recently, I think the brand is Opinel. Looks like this:
Quite a handy little knife actually.

The original old timers are great knives. I have had a few that have been handed down the generations and they were workhorses. They are still going strong. Not sure of the newer ones.

I thought I had a photo of a filet knife nthat I made a sheath out of PVC, but I can't find it. I will photo the knife again tomorrow. Just a heat gun & thin PVC, belt sander will produce a sheath capable of extraction by either hand, by forming the hot PVC, with hands(thin leather gloves) around the shape of the knife, the amount of tension is decided by you. I like the PVC sheath in the field because of the ease of cleaning blood/body fluids from it, just wash or soak & in a minute or two, she's sanitized.
Here is a formed factory sheath by Mora, either hand & secure, easy to clean.
Here is a simple sheath made in a few minutes for one of my axes,,,, PVC can be made to do anything,,,,
