George, a meet is way better than just talking to experienced people about hones, you will actually be able to try different hones yourself and see which brands feel best to you.
Waiting for the announcement and hopefully it's a weekend when I don't have to travel. I don't do weekend travel much, but I do have a Sunday trip coming up on the 13th of this month

I would vote for January because it seems life gets very busy between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then we have to consider the Denver Broncos and their playoff run to another super "Bowl!!! Also, January is before the real Fly Fishing season begins. I live in Denver, but do not mind driving to a central location.

I hope we keep this going. I am very interested in meeting all of you and learning.

January would be good. Broncos game tomorrow should be a good one. I am a Colorado Transplant almost 12 years ago and have been a Patriots fan since the mid 70s when I lived in the Boston area. I enjoy watching and rooting for the Broncos with my grand son....unless the they are playing New England

First successful first pass (90%) with a Parker shavette this morning. Chin and upper lip still presenting a deep fear factor. Only getting 2 shaves with a Shark 1/2 blade. Keeping the Shavette and blades very dry when not using. Still, pleased with progress.

Congrats! I've got one of those Parker shavettes, too, that came with some Shark half blades. I don't use the Parker often, but when I do, I snap a much better blade (Astra or Gillette Silver Blue) in half while still in the wrapper. I get a much better shave with those.

Thanks Doug. I go back and forth with a 1/2 snapped Personna and the Shark. I'm not skilled enough to feel much of a difference. I do change the blade after 2 shaves. I told my family , "no more golf balls, no more fishing flies" for Christmas. So the issue is where do you suggest I buy my first Straight razor and Strop? I will have the razor sent to my wife and the strop to my daughter so they wrap for Christmas morning. I'm thinking a 5/8 rounded point, hollow blade. I would rather go directly to the source and not use Amazon for this purchase. Seems like the razors are sold by a number of small businesses. I would prefer to support them. Thanks again for you tips.

Definitely avoid Amazon and eBay initially... Those are great occasional resources but you have to know what you are looking at to the smallest detail.

Classifieds here have good deals but the better deals go quick.

Straight Razor Designs is a great vendor and I believe you get 2 Re-Hones with the purchase of a New SR.

I am not sure where we are at with recommendations to other places that aren't Ad Vendors on SRP... But, lots of Wet Shavers in Denver so bet someone close can either hook you up or point you in the right direction.

I think 6/8s are a little easier for beginners. The wider blade is easier to keep flat on the strop, and the shave angle is more obvious. When I started I also found that the increased weight helped too.
