Thanked: 7My first acquisition were these a couple of weeks ago. Not using them until they get honed although to touch they appear pretty close to shave ready.
I also have 3 razors I picked up at an antique store to practice honing with. One I think I might send out for a restore

This is a really tough question and depends on how much you want to spend. If I was going to buy a brand new razor, I think you probably can't go wrong with SRD. They come completely shave ready. If you want to go for less, I have had some really good experiences with Larry at Whipped Dog. I have also bought several razors from eBay that are "shave ready." Some have been, others have not been close. You never know for sure until they arrive. I have also bought one razor from the SRP classifieds that is incredible for much less than $100. There are a lot of folks on here with much more experience than I have who can probably direct you better. Probably your safest bet is either SRD or the classifieds here on SRP. On the other hand, the best shaving razor I own, I bought from a Gentleman who came to the first Denver meet up that I attended last year. I wish I could be of more help.

Thanked: 0Thanks again Doug. This forum has been great. I can't wait until the first meet. I'm traveling on business this week, but will order next week when I return.

Thanked: 0Thanks, I'll talk to the seller. My facial hair is getting softer as the years pass by. Chin and upper lip remains the problem areas.

Thanked: 0Waited until this past Monday to order a Dovo Best Quality Black 5/8" Straight Razor & Strop Set from SRP. Now I can't wait for the package to arrive. Also ordered a small bottle of razor oil & a Sack-Ups Protective Razor Sleeve. Does anyone use the oil? Probably just a light olive oil. Can't wait. All the above advice has been most helpful. Thanks to everyone.

Pretty sure it is camelia oil although many light oils can be used. I wouldn't use any kind of cooking oil though
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
