OK, that's great. You are starting off with very good equipment.

My only advice on the strops is to watch a few good stropping videos, go slow till you are comfortable, keep the spine down so you don't roll your edge, and don't cut your strop!

Utopian, will you be sharing the video on this thread?

That will be up to the OP to decide.

OK, the video is posted and I have permission to link it here.

I used to have an aunt who tended to be fairly critical of, well, everything, and when she did not like something she often would say that it was "not too extra." That was her best attempt at being kind.

So, let's just say that the condition of this edge was not too extra. Even though the OP thought that it was able to shave, I'm pretty sure that it will shave better when it gets back to him.

Impressive work on the video. I am looking forward to seeing how you go about making it true again. The good news for me is that seeing I enjoyed shaving with it as is, I am only going up from there. I was thinking it was my technique that caused the burn, but I did need to use more pressure when shaving with the Bartmann compared to my new SR. With each shave I am working on using even less pressure to get the job done.

I will be setting the Bartmann aside once it returns to me, at least until I am done nicking strops, faucets, metal rings, and the rest of the newbie mistakes that can ruin an edge. Hopefully I will be able to pass it to my families next generation in better condition than I received it, thanks to Utopian for all the help.

Great video, and yes, "...that's not pretty...", looks like that would leave a lot of "cat scratch's" on the face and a lot of red, not very comfortable shave at all as you state.

Great that the owner of that very nice Bartmann will have a real "shave ready" edge, very cool of you!!

Just an update here. I did do a two camera honing video of the Bartmann. It is broken up into 5 smaller videos and it is uploading now. So far, after 3 hours, 17% of the first video is uploaded. This is going to take a while.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video/videos! : I hope it can somehow be made a permanent part of the forum.

Not this one! It did not go well. I was in a bad mood and was distracted and there was loud talking by just-arrived in-laws going on downstairs and an airplane went overhead and a train went by and a cat was complaining and a fly kept buzzing the camera and I stupidly took a short-cut near the end that did not work out. Oh well, I'll leave it as is, since I don't know how to edit videos yet. There will just have to be a lot of fast forwarding!

This was more of a proof of concept video for me to see if I could film both the honing and the monitor showing the edge at the same time. The content is crap but the filming method shows promise.

My friend you tried! Hell I can't even figure out how to get my digital camera to change settings!

I for one am looking forward to seeing the rest! I'm very confident that it will be informational for all of us.
