+1 to Roy, Ron.
I too have honed a few for guys here, who thought their razors were shave ready. And looked identical to your video.
Thanks for posting this, its great knowledge for a newb.
Hopefully this gets them to understand what a true edge should look like under magnification.Mike

Thanks for sharing the video Ron. Great to show what was there as to what's after.
Nothing is fool proof, to a sufficiently talented fool...

Thanked: 3795The first part of the video now finally is uploaded. Fair warning, my wife watched it and said at the 17 minute mark, "this might be really helpful for people who have trouble sleeping." She was not joking.
You have been warned.
Oh, and there still are 3 or 4 more to go!
Remember, you can skip ahead, or you can make a sandwich and have a beer, and it still won't be done!

Thanked: 3Hi Ron,
First of thanks for the vid. Contrary to your intro I loved it....never imagined I enjoy the sound of a razor touching a whetstone so much!
Here's a rookie question- I guessing the tape is to protect the artwork on the spine. So what about the artwork of the face of the blade? Since there's no tape over there, won't it get ruined?
Thanks...btw waiting for the rest of the vdos.

Great video Ron. I am looking forward to the next video. It is looking much better. I am hoping my Grandfather in law will have a way to view these videos. When he gave the razor to me he also gave me that strop and stone I posted in a different thread. I do not think he had any idea it would end up going through such an expert restoration of the edge. Yet again .. thank you!

Taping can indeed protect the spine if it has wash or etching. It also helps prevent hone wear which is especially important for new honers as they tend to apply to much pressure to the spine grinding it away and ruining the razors geometry.
On the face of the blade it doesn't come into contact with the hone due to the hollow grinding unless the razors worn away up to the etching etc where it will be affected by the bevel itselfLast edited by eddy79; 09-11-2017 at 11:55 AM.
