Thanked: 0Hello!
Hi guys,
My name is Robert. I've been cruising around the forums for a bit and am really excited to start shaving. I've been on the prowl for a razor for a little bit. I think I'm going to go with the lower cost Dovo from SRD.
I grabbed the Tweezerman badger brush from Amazon. I think as a bonus I might pickup the SRD vanilla bourbon soap. =)
Glad to be here.

Thanked: 993Robert,
Welcome to SRP. I'm excited for you to start shaving too...because once you dabble....that's it, you're going to be hooked.
Have you given a thought to a strop? If not....check the SRD babies out. They are superb (and have replaceable leathers for when you nick the first one)....
have fun,

Thanked: 0Thanks for the reply!
I'm looking at the kits from SRD, with the strop included. I'm actually super tempted at the full kit, but since I already have a brush, I don't know if I /need/ that whole set.
Any thoughts on 2 vs 3 inch brushes?

Welcome to SRP Robert. One of the best parts of your new hobby is discovering what works for you and what you like. You may find once you have been at this for awhile, you'll have a couple of strops, a few brushes, and possibly quite a lot of razors. When you find yourself cruising the bay or the classifieds here at 2 in the morning looking for yet another razor/strop/brush you will know you have an acquisition disorder...which we encourage and we are here to support you. Post any questions you have and enjoy you new hobby.

I think you'll like the brush from SRD more than the Tweezerman, and it never hurts to have an extra...
As far as size goes, If you plan on getting a scuttle or some other container to build lather in, Take that into consideration when buying your brush...We have assumed control !

Thanked: 0Thanks for the comments. I ended up grabbing a razor from the classifieds here, and a strop from SRD. (I also grabbed the vanilla bourbon SRD soap and the Dominica Bay Rum after shave.) NOw I just have to wait on the mail!

Thanked: 0Well I shaved my first sideburn today with a razor I bought from hi_bud_gl on the classifieds. It came today and my strop and some accessories should come tomorrow.
Today went okay. Trying to get the blade to touch my skin the first time was a weeeee bit nerve wracking, but in the end it went okay. No blood, no mess, and I feel somewhat more confident than the first minute or so. (Funny, yesterday I was super confident... before I got the razor!)
I think I did get one nick, but I'm not sure. No pain, no blood, but i did have a tiny little bump afterwords. Can't wait to give it another go tomorrow!
I haven't really posted much (err at all) outside this welcome thread, but I've been reading a ton. This forum is amazing, and the helpful and encouraging nature of the members is very reassuring. (Special hat tip to hi_bud_gl who's answered (often within 30 seconds to a minute, yowza!) some questions I emailed him.) Really excited. =)

first off welcome, when I was starting I could never stop at just a sideburn I had to keep going, it was fun. Good luck and enjoy the shaves I have never liked shaving until I started using a straight.
