I guess that would depend on your wallet.

I've got one of Stu's razors. Won't find better IMO. But as Oz said, customs are not cheap. Worth every penny if you have the money, but not cheap.

I've been speaking to Stu on facebook a bit and i'll definitely get one of his razors when i'm a bit more proficient in straight shaving.

I was looking at a round point 6/8 with carbon scales, the workmanship on those razors look incredible!

I'd say something along the lines of an entry level Dovo would be a nice addition to form a rotation and won't set you back a whole lot of $. Wait until you know for sure that straight razor shaving is your cup of tea before you go for the high dollar razors. IMHO.

Sounds like a good plan Jimmy, the customs were in excess of $450 so its a bit of an outlay, that'll come much later on down the road, in the meantime i need to actually learn how to shave with a straight

We are in a difficult position. We have a 'no vendor bashing' rule, that we try to follow ourselves as well

On one hand we'd like to just take a stance against certain vendors. But we know that if we do that, we'll violate our own rule, and people would just put it down to 'suppressing competition for the owners of SRP'. The owners of this place are vendors as well. And even though they generally stay out of the decisionmaking process, perception is everything and we can't play favorites.

Otoh, sometimes it is so blindingly obvious that something is a scam, that it seems almost ridiculous to cover them under the 'no vendor bashing' rule.

For the moment we just post in every one of these threads to point out just how bad those 'sight unseen' razors are. The funny thing is that for the same price, you could buy one from the classifieds here, and be almost certain that you'd have an excellent shaver in a decent condition.

I always appreciate it when this happens. We have a very generous community, and a lot of stuff gets sent to newbies, or donated to the monthly giveaways.

    Thanks Bruno,

I understand that it's difficult with the rules in place and appreciate that you post how bad the sight unseen stuff can be, i've certainly learnt my lesson.
The razor that i recieved almost put me off straight razor shaving, then James sent me a lovely little razor and the experience was like night and day, I had my first proper straight shave this weekend and i can honestly say that if i had stuck with the first razor i got i would have given up by now.

Thanks James for your generosity and for helping me move forward with a straight, i will always appreacite that.

The pleasure is all mine. It's always great to welcome a new straight razor user to the family
