Lather was warm but not hot. Just used hot tap water. Didnt boil water or microwave it. Im a little afraid to do that. Id hate for it to break.

Im used to using a large shave bowl that has more room for whipping up lather. The lather bowl is a bit narrow in the bottom but i think there is enough room to do the job. I will just need to get used to the smaller size. The website said this was for a smaller brush and i think it was talking about the depth of the bowl but i didnt see any issue with how deep it was with a standard sized brush.

The cream color dont help in seeing the lather, thats for sure. Blends right in. Think i might need some more light in the bathroom. Ha. I had smeared a sample of H.K. in the bottom and started whipping it up. Thought i had worked it all up, but when i rinced it out in the end i found some soap still in the bottom. Maybe i should have gotten a different color.

You can tell they are hand made. Not like a flaw or anything of that nature but it just looks like it was molded by hand. Nice.

So there is my opinions. Now to see about turning the hot water heater up a notch to see if i can bump up the temp a little more. The wife said "damn, how much did that cost. Nevermind, i dont think i want to know". She could tell it was hand made and seen it came by German post.

Sence this is my only scuttle and everyone thinks its the best in scuttles, i feel i did good in my chioce and will enjoy having the warm lather in the winter time.

    Glad to hear your thoughts.

If you diddn't, you may want to fill it with hot water and let it sit for a few minutes, then dump and fill again before starting your lather. That would help keep it warmer longer! I always do this when putting coffee in a thermos, helps a lot!

Sense ive been driving truck for over 30 years, i learned the hot water in the thermos thing a log time ago. And yes. I filled both the insides and the lather bowl with hot water to soak my brush. Then after my shower i dump it all out and filled the insides. A drip or three in the lather bowl plus soap and go for it.

Sorry i didnt mension this in the write-up and thanks for the comment.

2 things Jerry, first if you need hotter water, you could just turn up your temp on the water heater. 2. You do t need to put the scuttle in the microwave to heat up the water, just do your normal preheat, and bring a thermos of micro, nuclear, molten lava water with you. Then refill, but you might find out that too hot breaks down lather. That's why tap is what most use. But I know after we had our tankless stalled it was not as hot at the tap so had to turn up the temp. Tc

Thanks for the reply TC. I will check it out. This first try the lather was warn but if i had to guess it was about as warm as my face skin. That was an odd feeling or should i say no feeling being the same temp as me! Got some playing to do for sure.

It looks like you have the same size Schwartz as I do, the basic size. I find because of the large opening it's a tad harder to keep things warm compared to my Moss Scuttle which has a smaller opening and holds a tad more water than the Schwartz. However it's still warm enough.

When I got my tankless heater it was set for 120F from the factory. They do that to save you money. I turned mine up to 130. When I had the tank it was probably around 160 but that's really too hot.

Don't put the Schwartz in the microwave. If need be heat some water and pour that in the Schwartz but don't make it too hot.

That was mine too 120, which really is a little low for my preference and the wife's, we went to 130 also. At that temp my scuttle was plenty warm, tc

    Gentlemen,

I have the basic size Schwarzweisskeramik scuttle. It's just the right size for me. The bowl is big enough for even large brushes. It also keeps my lather warm throughout the shave. By now this scuttle is a major note in the shave den's personality.

Here is how I use it:

    1. On the way to the shower, I fill the tank with hot tap water. Just warm water for the bowl, though, where I rest the brush — extreme hot water will damage your brush.

    2. When ready to shave, I empty the scuttle completely and then just fill the tank with hot water.

    3. Once I have completed lathering my Hollywood face and am ready with the razor, I empty the tank and refill it with hot water from the tap.

    4. And that's it: warm lather throughout the shave.

I thought about the refilling the third time last night but didnt do it. The opening is so wide i was thinking it would be easy enough to do. Thanks Obie. Ill give it a go tonight. I have to admit that my lather was a bit warmer this last time. Just waited for the hot water to get hotter.
