Just like in cigar humidors, lined with cedar, you have to add distilled water from time to time to humidifier (???) to keep the humidity ideal. When they pack cigars in these boxes at the factory, they usually add extra block of cedar wood to keep the humidity stable until opened at the store. These boxes aren't meant for storing cigars for years.

I've ever had any problems with rust with my razors although i just wipe the blade with towel after shaving, strop few times at canvas and then put the razor into box. No protective oils or anything. I would imagine that if you take dry cigar case and put dry razors or dry anything in it, there is no way they could get moisture. If the moisture comes from the air, then it will surely get into plastic container as well, sealed or not.
I might be wrong as well, but based on my experiences this would be the case.

Good point on all woods being able to hold moisture unless they are properly sealed. Actually one the best solutions is not to store your razors in the bathroom which obviously a moisture/humid environment. I store my razors in a Sears Craftsman wrench roll that will hold 8 straights and I keep it in a jewelry armoire in the bedroom. Of course my line up of straights is growing and I'll either get another roll that holds 8 or a larger tool roll. Worse case have a moratorium on razor acquisitions......uhuh, right. ;-)

On a more serious note, took a SOTD photo the other day and misted the setup with water from a spray
    bottle (for 'effect' ).
I then got distracted editing the image, writing the post, etc for maybe an hour, with the water still sitting on the razor
(a Burrell Top Flight). When I went to pack the gear up I noticed 'rust' had already formed on the razor. It's surprising how quickly a razor can be affected, isn't it? My four (current) razors are used in rotation, given a light strop (10/10) and oiled with Eucalyptus, so they don't get a lot of time to be damaged. I see though how a cigar box could have a detrimental effect.

That is exactly why I ended up using plastics for my cases.

As I'm certainly no cigar afficianado here's my two cents' worth...I don't think that the wood of the cigar box stores the moisture per se but rather, lets it pass through to adjust to the ambient environment since it is after all porous...the cedar block used in shipment holds just enough moisture after it's saturated that it'll make it to the destination with the cigars still regulated for moisture...after that, the cedar lining I think repels some critters that might otherwise be attracted to the tobacco and any dessicant "block" is saturated and the lid is thus closed, allowing the moisture coming from the pack to the outsdie to be absorbed by the cigars...if I were to use a cigar box or any other "box" for my str8's, I'd be sure to keep a dry dessicant block in the box or maybe use a hidden sachet of rice...I'd think we'd want to absorb the incoming moisture with the rice/dessicant rather than having it form on the str8's

    carlmaloschneider,

Here's a suggestion, available on Amazon.com: (It's a fountain pen case. Will accommodate your collection with a few spaces to grow. I have a bi-level version that holds 26. The fountain pen cases work very well for razors and make a nice display.)

    Cheers!

I actually use eye glass cases. I find that they are almost perfect. The hard shell ones work the best

A spanish cedar cigar box will work very well for razor storage. Spanish cedar does regulate humidity as well as proving not attractive to tobacco beetles. If the box is dry the cedar will actually absorb moisture from a razor.
That is not to say that anyone should store a razor without being as dry as possible regardless of the means of
storage. Spanish cedar cigar boxes absorb moisture from cigars that may be over-humidified and will release
what moisture they may hold to dry cigars. Cedar cigars boxes that are not laquered or otherwise finished on the exterior will breathe and with an added humidity device maintain cigars to the smokers desired humidity level usually ranging from 63% to 70%, keeping your cigars smokable. Given that, we should not of course, store our razors in a high moisture area that some bathrooms may be. I have used spanish cedar cigar boxes to store razors with no ill effect.
