Thread: What type of bowl do you use?

SRD Hand thrown pottery apothecary bowl. It's big and meaty and I like hand thrown pottery....way to go Lynn and Don !

At the moment i use a scuttle,but in the past i used a glasbowl that i found at a fleamarket.(cheap think about 50cents) In early day they use this bowl to present bonbons. Its 10cm deep so perfect to wipp up some lather.b

I too use a scuttle that I got from Julie at Dirty Bird Pottery. But, I also have her Bill Bowl. It's really nice size, and it has lathering swirls in the bottom. The handle us also really cool. It's kind of like an upside down coffee mug handle, so my thumb fits perfectly while holding it to make my lather. I dig it! I think I paid $24 or close to that. Julie makes great stuff, that is total quality. You wont be disappointed IMHO.

I usually fcee lather nowadays, but otherwise use a blue enameled tin cup. It came as part of a shaving soap package playfully named the "Sourdough Shave Box" from Glacier Smoothie soaps in Juneau, Alaska.

I alternate between 3. I've got a silver plated shaving cup with the metal insert. Great for really cold mornings as the metal insert does a great job of keeping the brush and the lather warm. Next is a Georgetown Pottery G5 scuttle. I use this most of the time. Lastly, I've got a little bowl with big ridges in the bottom that a local potter made up for me.

Ok I looked on the srp but cant find a scuttle what is a scuttle ?

Here's some very fine scuttle pics. Basically, it's a teapot (which may have 2 internal chambers) into which warm water is poured into to warm your lather and/or brush.

it's a mug with a perforated top that the puck sits on top of.On the side of the mug is a sort of side hole/vent that the brush rests in to stay moist. There are a few differing opinions as to the how and why of a scuttle Shaving Scuttle By Col. Conk .
