I pinched a hunk off the ball and steeped the tea in a mug. The first steeping was poured out, then the leaves were steeped again for three minutes. It has been awhile since I drank pu erh, but this doesn't seem as bitter as the last time. I made another mug this evening after dinner. Definitely more mellow.

Nessmuck, I'm waiting for someone to answer your question since I have only tried pu erh a couple of times. If they don't respond I will give you my method.
