Yes, ideed Nightblade. Low quality ripe (cooked) PuErh tea, tastes like fish to me as well. When you find a good quality Pu Erh from a reputable tea seller you will notice a huge difference.
Another thing is that raw PuErh and ripe PuErh are too different teas for me. They may derive from the same tea trees but they taste completely different in the cup.
Some information are given from Don and Celine in the following video. At about 4:50 they comment on this fishy taste that you reffered. Enjoy :D

Some of my favorites right now. Variety IS the spice of life.
I love good tea!
Gushu Pu Erh, Da Ye Zhong cultivar, from 500 year old, ancient arbor trees in Pasha, Yunnan, China.
Pale, peachy nectar. Syrupy texture. Scent of musk, taste of apricot jam, peaches and plums. Very juicy, very fruity. Long lasting after taste. Delicious tea!

Hello,
I've been drinking this tea for breakfast sometimes with milk and honey. It is such a sweet blend of Assam and Ceylon. My favorite of these blends I've tried. I also like their Prince Vladimir Blend, an Earl Greyish type. I love it, even though I'm not much of an Earl Grey fan. I also tried Red Fruits, I never thought you could mix berries with black tea and taste so good.

My past memories of Earl Grey was my mum drinking it, and it smelled like washing-up water. Having read up about Earl Grey, I found that it's the oil of bergamot that gives it its unique (?) flavour. And as bergamot smells nothing like washing-up water, that's always puzzled me.
Last week, I ordered one of these...

The item was delivered, along with a sample of their Earl Grey. Upon opening the sample, my nose was hit with the smell of... bergamot. Intrigued by this, I duly brewed a cup of the stuff, and was surprised to find that there was no hint of washing-up water in the smell. That was drunk, and more was ordered.
So this arrived today... and some more milk oolong. Anyone for a cuppa?
