My new "toy". Tea roaster - "hulu" - made of Yi Xing clay.
Before the new age loose leaf tea era (Ming dynasty), tea was made into bricks as merchandise. It was ground and roasted before boiled over fire. This tradition is extended to today in remote areas of Yunnan province, still used by local minority tribal people. Ceramic potteries are common containers for roasting tea.

    First getting to know:

Nice fonthunter, never seen one of those before. Is it shu you are roasting? and how does it taste, I'm intrigued.

I've tried Imem's roasting style using paper to breathe a little life into greener oolongs that are a little past their prime.

I'll dig out some pu'erh and give this a shot soon.

Yes I read, it's interesting and I bought my tea roaster from Imen too, I could not find anywhere else in the world.
I really tried with shu pu erh, it became a little stronger, fresher flavor, but much remains to be experimenting.

    Cheers,

    Default Tea Roaster

Didn't I see a picture of Michael Phelps with something like that? Who knew he was such a tea aficionado!

Tea time! Well, to be confident, here it is ALWAYS tea time! More than two liters a day!
Gentlemen, let me offer you a cup of Huang Shan Mao Feng 2012, just brewed in a fine Yi Xing teapot. Enjoy!
